FKSPCA Announces Mobile Wellness Clinic Project
KEY WEST and Marathon FL—The Florida Keys SPCA wishes to express its gratitude to the donors who supported the 2023 Fantasy Fest King and Queen campaign. Through their generosity, an astounding $587,000 was raised to support the mission of the FKSPCA. The FKSPCA plans to use these funds to provide valuable services for financially limited pet owners throughout the Lower and Middle Keys from MM0 to MM70.
“The rising cost of living has pushed our residents and pet owners to surrender their beloved companions to the FKSPCA, citing financial limitations as the primary reason. In fact, we’ve seen a startling 100% increase in such cases in the just the past 2 years,” said Tammy Fox, FKSPCA Executive Director”.
While the FKSPCA shelter locations in Key West and Marathon offer wellness services, as well as affordable and free spay/neuter services, there remains a pressing challenge in terms of access to care. Many pet owners simply lack transportation or the means to bring their pets into the shelter.
“To tackle this access challenge head-on and reduce the heartbreaking trend of pets being surrendered due to financial constraints,” Fox announced, “our Board of Directors has taken a bold step. They’ve committed to utilizing the funds raised by the King and Queen campaign to acquire a mobile medical clinic, which will take these essential services directly to the areas across the Florida Keys where pets and their owners desperately need them in 2024.”
The purchase of a mobile vet clinic will ensure that affordable spay/neuter services and routine medical care are accessible to all pet owners, eliminating the barriers posed by cost and transportation issues. “This service will keep countless pets healthy and in their homes with their loving families.” Ms. Fox added.
Board President, Jeff Johnson, added, “The FKSPCA staff, board and volunteers wish to thank the 2023 Fantasy Fest King and Queen Candidates, their teams and every donor who threw their support behind the Fantasy Fest King and Queen Campaign. Your collective efforts have not only made this program possible; you are all true heroes and invaluable partners in our life-saving mission. We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support. Thank you!”
