Adopt a Pet

Thank You For Wanting to Adopt! Adopting a shelter pet is giving a homeless animal a FURever home. The goal of Florida Keys SPCA is to find the right home for every animal available for adoption.

Due to the Coronavirus situation, some of our animals normally pictured as available for adoption are in temporary foster care, until it is deemed safe and appropriate to reopen our shelter for in-person meet and greets.

To see how you can adopt an animal today, please click on the 'Adoption Specials' bar below to learn more about our Love is Blind Adoption Campaign.

Thank you for understanding.

Before You Adopt

Please consider the following when choosing to adopt:

  • The cost of owning a pet. Although our adoption fees are nominal, an animal is going to need a lifetime of veterinary care, food, grooming, supplies and training.  Be prepared to provide these for your new pet.
  • Is the breed or size of the animal you are adopting allowed where you live? If you need to move, can you take your animal with you?  A majority of animals surrendered to us are due to housing issues.  Please consider if this lifetime commitment works for you.
  • If there are other animals in the home, is there the proper amount of space needed to integrate those animals? Most animals and species cannot immediately coexist and need a patient family willing to manage their relationship, and invest the time.
  • We are looking for furever homes, whether the animals’ lifetime is 1 year or 20 years. Please be prepared to care for the animal as long as it lives.
Adoption Process
  • Schedule a meet & greet with an animal you are interested in giving a home to. We ask that all family members meet the potential new four-legged family member.
  • Complete an adoption questionnaire and give to front desk or email to Info@fkspca.org.
  • Schedule an appointment with an adoption counselor. Our counselor’s goal is to discuss the animal's needs and the family's expectations.
  • If you already have a canine family member at home and are looking to adopt a dog, the adoption counselor will set a day, time and location for both pups to meet.
  • If the family and animal are a match, then the animal goes home!
