Adopt a Pet
Thank You For Wanting to Adopt! Adopting a shelter pet is giving a homeless animal a FURever home. The goal of Florida Keys SPCA is to find the right home for every animal available for adoption.
Please consider the following when choosing to adopt:
- The cost of owning a pet. Although our adoption fees are nominal, an animal is going to need a lifetime of veterinary care, food, grooming, supplies and training. Be prepared to provide these for your new pet.
- Is the breed or size of the animal you are adopting allowed where you live? If you need to move, can you take your animal with you? A majority of animals surrendered to us are due to housing issues. Please consider if this lifetime commitment works for you.
- If there are other animals in the home, is there the proper amount of space needed to integrate those animals? Most animals and species cannot immediately coexist and need a patient family willing to manage their relationship, and invest the time.
- We are looking for furever homes, whether the animals’ lifetime is 1 year or 20 years. Please be prepared to care for the animal as long as it lives.
- Complete an adoption questionnaire and give to front desk or email to Info@fkspca.org.
- Have a meet & greet with an animal you are interested in giving a home to. We ask that all family members meet the potential new four-legged family member.
- Schedule an appointment with an adoption counselor. Our counselor’s goal is to discuss the animal's needs and the family's expectations.
- If you already have a canine family member at home and are looking to adopt a dog, the adoption counselor will set a day, time and location for both pups to meet.
- If the family and animal are a match, then the animal goes home!
